Pastor Jarvis was born in St. Louis County, Missouri on February 13, 1964 to Bob and Joyce Jarvis, joining his sister, Connie and then a little later his brother Chris. He graduated from high school and started at Concordia, St. Paul in 1982 and then transferred to Concordia, Seward from which he graduated in 1986.  He went to Concordia Seminary in St. Louis and graduated in 1990.  His first call was to Our Redeemer in Moorhead Minnesota, where he met his wife Becky.  While there they had their first child, Andrew, now 17 years old.  In 1993 he was called to serve Faith Lutheran in Menomonie Wisconsin, and there, Michaela was born, now 14 years old.  They stayed there until he was called to Morris, Minnesota in 1999 to serve the congregation at Zion and the students of University of Minnesota Morris.

Pastor Jarvis likes the scene in Bo Giertz's book The Hammer of God where an old, experienced pastor, takes a fresh, new pastor aside, points out a window to the parish and says, "There's your teacher, my boy."  His 20 years of pastoral ministry has been one of constant learning, particularly how to be faithful to his callings, as a father to his children and an undershepherd to the Lord's sheep.  He is eager to learn more but also eager to share what he has learned with the congregation at Hosanna.  He is grateful to be Lutheran and convinced the faith as confessed in the Book of Concord is the faith Jesus taught his apostles.  Finally, he looks forward to caring for God's sheep at Hosanna, filling them with the Lord's gifts at worship, and then turning them out to serve their neighbor in their various callings.
